Real Estate

2022 Review, 2023 Preview

February 2023

2022 was the worst year for real estate since 2008. With interest rates continuing to increase and housing prices in decline, are we set for a repeat of the housing crisis?

Osborne Partners views each asset class in our multi-asset class portfolio as having a distinct purpose.

The Investment Team uses the Real Estate asset class to diversify and grow your investment portfolio and to generate income. We divide this asset class into three segments: real estate investment trusts (REITs), residential real estate companies, and commercial real estate companies.

In this video, Investment Team Analyst, Jason Rodnick, CFA explains why the team believes the real estate market is in a period of rebalancing and not a crisis and explains why the outlook for real estate today is much better than it was in 2008-2009.

Meet Jason Rodnick, CFA

Early in his career, Jason pursued accounting, passing all four parts of the CPA exam yet in the end found being an accountant unfulfilling. He pivoted to investment research and completed the rigorous Chartered Financial Analyst exam. Jason joined Osborne Partners in 2018 as a member of the investment team. He helps generate new investment ideas, monitor existing investments, and manage client portfolios. Jason enjoys the intellectual challenge of investment research and specializes in making beautiful charts and creating inscrutable Excel spreadsheets.

Jason lives in San Francisco’s Outer Sunset neighborhood with his wife and three young children and bikes to work. An interesting fact about Jason is that he met his wife via Bloomberg chat, and for that reason, the Bloomberg Terminal will always hold a special place in his heart.
