Natural Resources & Alternatives

2022 Review, 2023 Preview

February 2023

2022 was a year defined by higher interest rates, a stronger dollar, and a highly volatile commodity landscape, wreaking havoc for the typical equity and fixed income investor. Oft forgotten asset classes such as Natural Resources and Alternatives proved their mettle as valuable components of a well-diversified portfolio for times such as these. As old challenges fade, and new ones emerge, what lays ahead in 2023?

Osborne Partners views each asset class in our multi-asset class portfolio as having a distinct purpose in your portfolio.

The Natural Resources asset class, which we divide into hard commodities like industrial and precious metals, soft commodities like agriculture, and energy, provides both a major inflation hedge and acts as a portfolio diversifier.
The Investment Team uses the Alternative Investments asset class to hedge interest rates, currency, and volatility, own niche investments such as private equity companies, and/or own distressed investments with high reward-to-risk ratios.

In this 8 minute video, Investment Team analyst, Jack Fagan, CFA reviews and previews Natural Resources & Alternatives.
